Mr. Oscar Salgado, PhD

Senior Researcher at Ikerlan S. Coop.

Dr. Oscar Salgado is an accomplished Mechanical Engineer with expertise in kinematics and dynamics modelling of complex mechanical systems and manipulators, vibroacoustics, NVH and modal analysis. He obtained his MSc degree with honours in 2004 and his PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2008 from the University of the Basque Country, UPV-EHU (Spain). With over 15 years of experience, he has led industrial projects in various sectors like vertical transportation systems, wind energy, railway, and industrial machinery. Since 2014, he has been a key actor on Condition Monitoring, Digital Twin and Industry4.0 technologies research at IKERLAN, driving numerous research projects and publishing several papers and articles in this field. Dr. Salgado has also represented IKERLAN in several research and innovation forums like EFFRA, and has actively participated in research projects funded by public institutions like the Basque Government, the Spanish Government, and the European Commission.

Tonny Velin

Managing Director at Industry 4.0 Factory Solutions

Tonny Velin graduated in Computer Science Engineering from the Universities of Bordeaux and Toulouse. He has 35 years’ experience in ICT. He started his career at the European Space Agency (ESA) and then he has been developing and managing projects and missions in France, Germany, Belgium, Canada and Spain in the Aerospace and Defense sector (for both industrial and public customers). From 2002 till 2020, he created and managed Answare, an SME focusing on ICT consultancy and software innovation projects. He has managed and participated in ICT R&D; projects at European level for H2020, FP7, FP6 and EUREKA clusters (ITEA, CELTIC and EUROSTARS), and at national level (Spain). He worked as Consultant to boost the participation of ICT-based SMEs in R&D; European programmes through programmes from the Chamber of Commerce of Madrid and the Spanish Technological Centre for Industrial Development (CDTI). He collaborates with European initiatives such as AIOTI, and has collaborated with NESSI, BDVA and PLANETIC, the Spanish ICT-based Technology Platform. He has contributed to CONECTA 2020 and MOSAIC to foster International Cooperation between Europe and LatAm and Mediterranean countries around ICT. Since 2016, he is President of CENTIC, the Technology Centre of ICT of the Region of Murcia and since 2021, he is Managing Director of i4FS, a company focusing on exploiting innovative solutions for Zero Defect Manufacturing.

Santiago Cáceres

Senior Project Manager at ITI - Instituto Tecnológico de Informática

Santiago Cáceres, PMP, is a telecommunication engineer with a networking specialisation for the Polytechnic University of Valencia. He worked in ETRA Research and Development and has been a senior project manager at ITI since four years ago. Santiago has over 15 years of experience managing and coordinating large EU research projects in the ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) and Security (both cyber and physical) programmes. He has participated in more than 16 innovative projects, coordinating three of them, PRECYSE, LetsCrowd and DataPorts, and being the technical manager in others, as is the case of ZDMP (Zero Defects Manufacturing Platform) and Humboldt projects. Furthermore, Santiago has recently worked for the European Commission as an evaluator of innovation proposals. His main research interests are closely related to industry 4.0 and manufacturing solutions, the data life cycle, and its potential application areas, especially using big data and artificial intelligence techniques.

Phu Nguyen

Senior Research Scientist at SINTEF, Norway

Phu Nguyen is a senior research scientist at SINTEF, Norway. He works in the Trustworthy Green IoT Software group, developing new tools and methodologies for software development and operation of intelligent and trustworthy systems spanning across the IoT, edge, and cloud continuum with a particular focus on sustainability. Phu has an international education and research background, from Vietnam (BSc) to the Netherlands (MSc), Luxembourg (Ph.D.), and Norway. He is highly experienced in international research projects, mostly in Europe, as well as research and development projects with industry in Norway. He has actively worked in two big research and innovation projects for Zero-Defect Manufacturing that have received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme: InterQ under Grant Agreement No. 958357, and DAT4.Zero under Grant Agreement No. 958363.

Roberto Rocca

Roberto Rocca is PhD candidate in the Manufacturing Group at the Department of Management, Economics, and Industrial Engineering of the Politecnico di Milano, where he has been collaborating since 2017. His research interests are focused on Sustainable Manufacturing paradigm, Sustainability Metrics and Assessment, Circular Economy, Data Spaces and I4.0 technologies supporting sustainable operations in manufacturing field. He has been and is involved in various European and industrial projects, such as FAR-EDGE, FENIX, EIT Manufacturing TF KnowNet, OPTIBEND, L4MS. He is Sustainability-topics coordinator and WP1 Leader in CLARUS project. He is also responsible of different project with companies related to Life Cycle Assessment, Energy Efficiency, Circular Economy, and Twin Transition roadmapping tools.

Ana Gonzalez Segura

Project manager expert at NTT DATA SPAIN, she currently belongs to the External Funding unit, devoted to the promotion of the innovation in the company. In particular, her main expertise is the preparation of different National and European R&I; proposals and the management and coordination of funded projects. Despite having a strong background in health (having been part of the Health Innovation department for four years) she has participated in several projects in different areas (ICT, banking, cybersecurity, education, manufacturing, etc.). She obtained her Physics degree and PhD in Medicine from the University of Valencia “Estudio General” (UVEG). She has been working and coordinating R&D; projects for about 10 years, both form the LLP and Erasmus + program and also from H2020 and Horizon Europe programs.

Linda Henriksson is the EU Project Director at the Dublin-based communications company Carr Communications. She has 7 years’ experience with EU framework programmes (FP7, H2020 and Horizon Europe), accrued as a beneficiary and proposal writer. In her role as Dissemination Manager on a number of Horizon projects, she supports her team and develops and implements communications and dissemination strategies designed to achieve far-reaching impact. She has worked on multiple projects focused on Industry 4.0 technologies, circular economy, citizen science, energy efficiency and other topics. Previously, she worked in and with the EU institutions as a translator and communications officer explaining EU policies and programmes and making complex concepts more accessible to non-specialist audiences. Linda holds a BA and an MA in Translation Studies and European Studies from the University of Turku, Finland.

Kosmas Alexopoulos

Dr. Kosmas Alexopoulos has graduated from the Computer Engineering and Informatics Department of University of Patras, Greece in 1999. He has received a Ph.D. in engineering (2006) from the University of Patras – Greece. Since 1998 he has been working at the Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems and Automation (LMS) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics of the University of Patras as a software engineer, senior researcher and project manager in more than 20 European and National research projects: SYRIOS, RealMan, VIRTUE, LicoPro, x-Change, MyCar, DIFAC, VISION, Sense&React;, INTERACT, ICP4Life, MANUWORK, MARKET4.0, Connected Factories II, MAS4AI and FLEX4RES are indicative projects. His research area and expertise are in the fields of smart factory, digital factory, flexibility of manufacturing systems, digital transformation, virtual and augmented reality, internet of things, cyber-physical-systems, industrial product service systems, computer-aided ergonomics analysis and modelling, human motion modelling and simulation, semantics, production scheduling and artificial intelligence. He has been leading researcher teams towards accomplishing technical engineering achievements in manufacturing mainly by investigating new technology for the digital and smart factory. He is the coordinator of Gaia-X Hub in Greece and leads the International Dataspaces Association (IDSA) Competence Center in Greece. He has currently more than 80 publications, including papers in international refereed scientific journals, chapters in books, and papers in conference proceedings with review in the full paper.

Wael M. Mohammed is a Doctoral Researcher at Tampere University. He received a M.Sc. in Automation Engineering from Tampere University of Technology in 2017 and a B.Sc. in Mechatronics Engineering from university of Jordan in 2010. As he is a Doctoral candidate in Engineering Sciences, Mr. Mohammed’s research interests include Robotics, Digital Twins, Knowledge Based Reasoning Engines and Factory Automation. In addition, Mr. Mohammed has been involved in working in EU funded project and writing proposals for research and innovation project funded by the EU commission. In 2010, he worked as a research assistant in the Production Engineering Department at Tampere University of Technology. Then in 2011, Mr. Mohammed worked as a head of the technical department in the Traffic Management System project at Etihad Alafandi L.L.C. in Saudi Arabia.

Nikos Nikolakis

Dr. Nikos Nikolakis holds a diploma (MSc. equivalent) from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Technology of the University of Patras, a PhD from the Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering of the University of Patras, and a Master in Business Administration (MBA) from the open Greek university. He works as a researcher in the Laboratory of Production and Automation Systems (LMS) and has participated in various European and nationally funded projects (such as KAP, Know4Car, INTERACT, SYMBIO-TIC, SERENA, Sense&Mine4.0;, RAMEN, ASSETUP4.0, UPMASS, OPENZDM). In the context of the projects, he participated in the management, design and development of software components related to statistical and artificial intelligence, human motion recognition, regression analysis and modelling of cyber-physical systems mainly in the manufacturing sector.

Ilias Gialampoukidis

Dr. Ilias Gialampoukidis received the Bachelor degree in Mathematics and the M.Sc. in Statistics and Modelling from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where he also received a PhD degree in Mathematics, with a special interest in applied mathematics, time series analysis, stochastic modelling, and network analytics. Dr. Ilias Gialampoukidis is a senior postdoctoral researcher at Centre for Research and Technology Hellas at Information Technologies Institute, with extensive experience in EC-funded research projects through project coordination, technical management, risk manager, work package leaderships in several projects. His research interests involve multimodal fusion, multimodal information retrieval, Earth Observation and Big Data analytics, supervised (deep) and unsupervised learning, social media mining and industrial IoT analytics. He has co-authored more than 60 publications in international journals and conferences. At the moment, Ilias Gialampoukidis is a senior project manager at the M4D group (https://m4d.iti.gr) of CERTH, leading a team of 31 associate and postdoctoral researchers and is contributing in 19 active EC-funded projects.

Dr. Stefanos Vrochidis received the Diploma degree in Electrical Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, the MSc degree in Radio Frequency Communication Systems from University of Southampton and the PhD degree in Electronic Engineering from Queen Mary University of London. Currently, he is a Senior Researcher (Grade C) with the Information Technologies Institute of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (ITI-CERTH) and the Head of the Multimodal Data Fusion and Analytics (M4D) Group. His research interests include multimedia understanding and retrieval, multimodal fusion, computer vision, multimodal analytics, artificial intelligence, as well as industrial, media & arts, environmental and security applications. Dr. Vrochidis has participated in more than 80 European and National projects and has been member of the organization team of several conferences and workshops. He has edited 3 books and authored more than 300 related scientific journal, conference and book chapter publications. He has served as a reviewer in several international Journals and as Technical program committee in well reputed conferences and workshops.

Mr. Jan Mayer MSc

Jan Mayer studied International Information Systems at the University of Bamberg until April 2021, following mainly quantitative courses with a focus on Data Science. He laid the foundation for his professional career with his training as a logistics services clerk at Geberit AG, where he had his first contact with key figure systems. He gained further practical knowledge of data analysis during internships abroad at GIZ GmbH in Kyrgyzstan and at Tesla Inc. in the Netherlands. Furthermore, he has several years of student experience from research activities at Fraunhofer IIS. Especially the implementation of digital transformation using smart apps and data analytics was in his area of responsibility. Since June 2021, Jan Mayer has been a research associate at the Department of Quality Science at the Institute for Machine Tools and Factory Management (IWF) at the Technische Universität Berlin. There, he works on the i4Q project and is predominantly involved with predictive quality control.

Stefano Riga is a Research Fellow at Politecnico di Milano. He holds a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and a master's degree in Management Engineering with a focus on industrial management. In his research activities, he focuses on the environmental sustainability of the manufacturing sector, and how Industry 4.0 technologies can foster its development. He is currently involved in European and business consulting projects. In the CLARUS project, he contributes to the research activities that deal with the Green Deal Performance Assessment methodology and the Green Deal Index (GDI) for optimizing production and logistic resources in the time-critical bio-production industries in Europe through AI solutions.

His keen interest in Blockchain technologies has led him to study in depth all aspects of p2p architectures, platforms like Ethereum and Hyperledger, consensus protocols like BFT, PoW and PoS, cryptography such as asymmetric key algorithms and hash functions up to zero-knowledge proof protocols, as well as their tools for development, implementation and use, currently being carried out some of then in the LogiBlock project for internal logistics robotic applications.

Mr. Rodolfo Haber, DEng

Rodolfo Haber (IEEE, IFAC member), Since January 2020, he has been appointed Director of the Center for Automation and Robotics of the Spanish Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) and Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM). In particular, he is the principal investigator from CSIC in European projects related with Artificial Intelligence and Industrial Cyber-physical systems/IIoT: KITT4SME (2020-2024) and PowerizeD (2022-25). He has authored 3 books, 16 patents, 2 trade secrets, 21 book chapters, and dozens of articles in indexed journals and conference papers. He has been co-founder of start-up Kinequo S.L. (2015), Xymbot Digital Solutions S.L. (2020) and Invofox ltd (2022). Since 2002, he has belonged to the IFAC’s Technical Committee 3.1 Computers for Control, ASME Technical Committee on Model Identification and Intelligent Systems and IEEE IES Technical Committee on Industrial Cyber-Physical Systems (ICPS). Since 2002, he has been an expert evaluator and Vice-Chair for the European Commission collaborating with various research agencies such as REA and EACEA. His main research activities are focused on cyber-physical systems, Internet-of-Everything, intelligent systems, modelling, control and supervisory systems, artificial cognitive systems and Industry 5.0.
